Yes, you can. Roughly 10% of people who use cannabis become physically addicted to it. You’re more likely to get addicted if you start using it in your teens or you use it every day. It’s also possible to become psychologically dependent on cannabis. If you use cannabis to relax and get to sleep, for example, you may find that it becomes difficult to relax and get to sleep without it.
How can I tell if I’m addicted?
You may be addicted to or psychologically dependent on cannabis if you’ve had three or more of these symptoms in the last year:- you’ve tried to cut down or stop, but haven’t been able to
- you’re concerned it’s having a damaging effect on your day-to-day life but you can’t stop
- you find you’re smoking more to get the same effect
- you’re starting to lose interest in other things, such as hobbies, family, college or work
- you get withdrawal symptoms when you don’t smoke
